But I doubt people would show up, and a 2003 Sonoma isn't exactly a show car, but its really not about me.
As I scroll through Oppo on the weekends it is pretty clear that people that go to cars and coffee see some beautiful rides. It got me to thinking that it would be great to organize something like this in my new city.
Lethbridge is a small city (~90000 people) in Canada that does not have a car culture per say. Lifted trucks of all verities litter the streets and a that is about as fancy as it gets for the most part. There are a few auto shops around town that do car stuff but they don't exactly pump out the customs. Northern Alberta's oil money does trickle down this south in the form of an R8, Viper, Tesla (ironically enough), and a few Corvettes, but the majority of the money is spent on SUV's. I can't argue with this because it is the north and we do have snow 8 months of the year. I could never justify driving an R8 with the insane amount of gravel and salt on the winter roads around here.
Lethbridge does have a weekend called Street Wheelers that brings people from all over and they do a heavily policed drive up and down a closed down street. It is typically a good time to sit and watch the cars cruise up and down at 5km/h. They do have a 1/8 drag at the fair grounds but that's for the muscle car guys and its never really worth your time.
Back to my organizing idea, just think it would be cool to get a few car guys from around town to park and talk. I'm sure a few would show up all the time and a few would never show but it would be neat to at least get some people together. I just don't think there would be enough quality content to keep people coming back. I know you can basically show up in whatever you want to these events but would maybe an R8, 10 lifted Chevys, and 4 riced out Civics keep people coming back. I don't see it.
Anyone out there organized such a thing?
